Fuel saving tips

Fuel saving tips

Do you really want to give up camping up north?

Here are some ideas to take the bite out of fuel costs.
• First, around home & the daily trip to work. Allow extra time so you can limit your speed below 60.
All vehicles burn more fuel more fuel above that speed & above 70 really sucks on the tank.
• Next, pace yourself. If you know you’re coming to a stop, coast to it. The less you use your brake the less fuel is used maintaining speed right up to the last second.
• When you start up, use your tachometer & avoid going above 2,500 rpm. Jack rabbit starts really burn the fuel. After awhile you’ll feel the correct rpm.
• If drivers around seem put-out, smile especially at the gas pump knowing you could get as much as 20% better mileage. I did this starting last spring & it does work.
• A side benefit - you’re more relaxed at the end of the drive.

You’ve worked hard all week. You need a great weekend break but fuel costs are ridiculous - right?

Weekend or vacation driving
I’ve heard all the hype on fuel mileage from the manufactures, but VERY FEW vehicles are set up to be efficient pulling RV’s. It’s usually geared up for pulling power with a smaller engine then needed. Keep in mind that mileage savings can only be proved over months of record keeping not just a tank full.

So, bring you camper here with the big towing vehicle. Leave it set-up on a campsite & return home using less fuel not towing.
Then use a more fuel efficient vehicle for additional trips north. Even if you don’t own a fuel saver, the one you drive will use less not towing. On our Camping page you’ll see a break-down of some projected savings & the plusses of on-site storage of your RV.

More ideas.
Talk with a camping friend or relative that you really enjoy spending time with & get then to come here & set up their camper on a site next to your’s. They can save just like you.
It’s always more fun for adults and kids to have fellow campers that they know to enjoy the time more.
This means you could car pool coming north and for enjoyable side trips while here.
Think about it - You could get back to reasonable fuel costs while having more enjoyable time camping here.
